As of 2020, STV is now available for the city to adopt for in its elections. STV is an electoral solution that increases the fairness of elections while keeping things simple for voters. It reduces the cost to run in our elections, the power of political money, and the potential for disenfranchisement in our system.
STV has been previously identified as clearly addressing Santa Clara's electoral problems, but it was not practical before 2020. Now that the County has upgraded its voting systems and we can adopt STV! Let us fix what is broken! The system is new and innovative, but here in Santa Clara we are The Center of What Is Possible. Innovation runs in our blood. All we need is resident buy-in to make it happen! Sign your name here!
STV is a system without districts (No splitting the city! No gerrymandering!). Voters would get to vote for every council member, and every council member would have to answer to the entire city. With its greatly reduced citywide winning threshold, STV makes elections simper and campaigns cheaper and easier to run.

We also have possible text of an amendment available.
